Rachel Burkart was a teacher at Lenoir City High School, a small school serving a town with a population of 7,000. In May of 2008, she abruptly resigned after allegations of an sexual relationship between her and an 18-year-old male student surfaced. Burkhart, who had taught at the school for two years, avoided legal charges as the student was of legal age at the time. However, Tennessee State Superintendent Wayne Miller did revoke her teaching license, and referred the case to child protective services.

Teresa Engelbach

Teresa Engelbach was a substitute teacher and volunteer track coach at Senn-Thomas Middle School who was arrested in November of 2007 after charges that she had sexual intercourse in multiple locations over a two month period wih a 14-year-old student, a friend of Engelbach’s brother. According to authorities, she also bought the boy various gifts, including a cell phone, items of clothing, and a paintball gun worth $750. She initially pleaded not guilty to the charges, but in March of 2008 entered a guilty plea to one felony count of second-degree statutory rape and one misdemeanor account of of sexual misconduct. She was sentenced to two years of probation, and required to register as a sex offender.

Alison Peck

Alison Peck was a 23-year-old music teacher at Greenfield High School in Greenfield, MO. She was charged on May 15, 2009 with two counts of statutory rape after, according to court documents, she admitted to having sex with a 13-year-old male student. On May 22, 2009, she was arrested again after allegedly meeting with the student at the American Inn in Springfield, MO, where the two had sex. After the second arrest, the judge required Peck to have no contact with the boy or his family, stay 1,000 feet away from his home and his school, and surrender her passport to the sheriff’s department. As of June 23, 2009, Peck remains in jail, unable to post bond, and awaiting trial.

Amy McElhenney

Amy McElhenney was a 25-year-old Hebron High School Spanish teacher and former Miss Texas contestant. In May of 2006, she was accused of having a sexual relationship with an 18-year-old male student. Under Texas state law, the age of consent is 17 years old, however a law passed in the state legislature made it illegal for teachers to have sexual relationships with students regardless of their age. The incident came to light after a school resource officer reported that McElhenney and the student had exchanged text messages that “constitute a flirtatious and endearing relationship.” When interviewed, McElhenney denied sexual contact with the student, however the student told police that he and the teacher had had sex on “numerous occasions” at her apartment. In September of 2006, the grand jury refused to indict McElhenney on the charge of felony improper relationship with a student. However, she lost her teaching certificate.

Carrie McCandless

Carrie McCandless was a teacher and cheerleading coach at Brighton Charter High School in Brighton, CO. She was accused in December of 2006 of having sexual contact with a 17-year-old male student during an overnight school camping trip. According to her arrest affidavit, McCandless supplied students on an October 2006 camping trip with alcohol, and “did everything except having sex” with a 17-year-old male student while another student slept on a couch nearby. She was fired from the school where her husband, Chris McCandless, was employed as the principal. She pleaded guilty in the summer of 2007 to sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and was sentenced to 45 days in jail. In March of 2009, she returned briefly to jail for violating the terms of her parole by drinking alcohol and being found in the bed of another parolee. She and her husband remain married.

Angela Comer

Angela Comer was a 26-year-old middle school teacher. She was forced to resign from the position in November of 2005 after allegations of an affair between herself and a 14-year-old male eighth grade student arose. In January of 2006, both Comer and the boy went missing, along with Comer’s 4-year-old son. They were found two weeks later by Mexican authorities in a hotel in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, near the Texas border. According to authorities, Comer and the boy had planned to marry one another in Texas, but when they were told parental consent was needed, they continued south. After serving nearly 16 months in jail, Comer pleaded guilty to one count of third-degree sodomy and one count of custodial interference, and was sentenced to 10 years in prison. Shortly before her formal sentencing hearing, Comer abruptly changed her story, saying the the 14-year-old abducted her, held her at gunpoint, and forced her to drive to Mexico. She says the boy also broke a guitar over her head when she attempted to escape. Her sentence was not altered.

Amy Northcutt

Amy Northcutt, 26, a former history teacher at Turlock Christian School in Turlock, California along with husband Justin Northcutt was arrested in early June on suspicion of distribution or exhibition of lewd material to a minor and annoying or molesting a child under 18.

The Northcutts are alleged to have sent sexually explicit cell phone messages and photos to a 16-year-old female student in an effort to arrange group sex with the girl.

The Stanislaus County district attorney’s office indicated on Tuesday that the Northcutts will face criminal charges although the exact nature of the charges was not revealed.

The Northcutts came to the attention of authorities by way of the girl’s mother, reportedly after Justin Northcutt was spotted talking to the alleged victim while she attended a family gathering.

Following her arrest Amy Northcutt was released on $10,000 bail.

Christine McCallum was released from her job teaching fifth grade at a Massacussetts elementary school Friday after she was arrested Thursday night for allegedly carrying on a three-year affair with a teenage boy. Lindsay Massaro was a student teacher at Frankford Elementary School. She was arrested in April 2009 for allegedly engaging in a sexual relationship with a middle school student. According to the Sussex County prosecutors office, Massaro had “committed acts of sexual penetration, and sexual contact with the intimate parts of a minor male.” Massaro admitted to investigators that she had commited sex acts on the boy in her car, as well as in her home. Police became aware of Massaro after the boy’s father reported there was an “ongoing” relationship between the two. In June 2009, she applied for a pre-trial intervention program, often the first step in receiving a plea agreement.
